Esad Can Öner




Born in Adıyaman in 2001, Esad Can Öner creates documentary works that explore traditional culture, craftsmanship, and often unseen forms of labor. His debut film, From Darkness to Daylight, focuses on artisans in Gaziantep who produce hemp using traditional methods in underground caves. The film follows, through an observational narrative, the labor carried from dark and humid caverns into the daylight. Öner’s documentary approach aims to preserve cultural memory and draw attention to Anatolia’s disappearing production practices. He also received the Best Project Award at the 15th TRT International Documentary Awards for his project “High Voltage.
