Karanlık ve karamsarlıkla özdeşleşen bir coğrafyada Afrika’da doğan Celal,
köyündeki çocukların eğitim koşullarını daha iyi bir noktaya taşımak için
elektriği köye getirmenin yollarını arar.
Jelal, hailing from the lands of Africa, a place often linked to darkness and
despondency, endeavors to seek pathways to illuminate his village by providing
electricity, to help improve the educational opportunities for the children
within his community.
Each geography has its own characteristics and rules or ways of life. Over time,
people become accustomed to these rules or challenge them by questioning this
way of life. The pursuit of man's essence undergoes refinement through the
passage of time, or he discovers a way out, embarking upon the journey he deems
right. While I was traveling, I found myself on such a quest in the remote
villages of Sudan. The events I encountered during another one of my visits to
Africa led me to write this story. On one hand, I embrace the innovations that
modern life has bestowed upon us without questioning, yet on the other hand, it
proved arduous for me to come to terms with the reality of a remote village,
somewhere in the world, devoid of electricity. I had experienced this situation
in many countries around the world. This was a problem related to the economic
situation or the development level of the countries. What I experienced in this
village in Sudan was not just the lack of electricity.
The crux of our film centered on Celal's unwavering determination to pursue his
goals, undeterred by the numerous challenges he encountered. Witnessing the
lighting predicament in his homeland, he embarked on a journey to effect change
without complaint. Celal, who asked himself similar questions, made a sudden
decision and left his country at a young age and came to Istanbul alone to work
hard and become an electrical engineer. Despite all the difficulties, he made
his decisions in the spirit of the values he believed in. Perhaps, from the
outside, this may seem like a small thing. But this moment in Celal's mind is
indescribable to him. His dream is to install a solar-powered lighting system in
the square of the village where he once lived. As is known, sunlight is present
in all seasons and makes its presence felt across the African continent. Based
on his research, Celal was certain that an economical, sustainable and healthy
lighting system was possible. Climate change was a harbinger that temperatures
in Africa would increase day by day. So he overcame one obstacle after another,
experienced new lives, met new people and completed his education. Finally, he
did not forget why he had come to Istanbul. He returned to his country and
opened new doors for the children in his village.
