A woman gets pregnant following a rape but she decides to abort the baby. The
operation is carried out with the support of her husband. Both the rape and the
abortion have had extremely deep and devastating impacts on her psychology;
hence she alienates herself from her husband and all the areas of life. In the
wake of this severe trauma the woman will never be able to relate to real life
again.
Director Statement
The reason behind writing and shooting the film “Illusion” is to be able to
demonstrate the invisible, but moreover distructive effect of rape, which is
frequently heard about these days. Any sexual approach against someone’s will,
by force and through beating is considered rape. Any attack causes bitter,
bloody and unforgettable memories that will never be forgotten by the victim,
following he/she like a shadow, for life.
“Illusion” aims to draw attention to this crime, which is not being duly
punished in Turkey. As an aftermath of a traumatic incident like rape, this is a
story of an emptiness, firstly deteriorating the human composure and converting
it to a catatonic behaviour and subsequently turning it into a distructive
illusion.
The victims are prisoners obliged to live behind the shadow of this trauma and
we witness their fears as this trauma remains with them for their entire lives.
We also witness the deep effect of a rape on a woman’s life and how this
experience affects her fears, dreams and vision of her future.
Without any discrimination against race, language and religion, the rape turns
the women’s life into a nightmare. Notwithstanding the duration of this short
film, my objective is to present all viewers with the courage “to be able to
observe the facts through the eyes of the victim”.
