Bluebird Society is a place where people have to send someone to the wizard, to
torture one of them in order to achieve pure happiness and peace. Efil, the
chosen one, gets scared and runs away from society. She encounters the wizard on
her way, but because she comes there by coincidence, the wizard tries to show
her a world with freewill and gives her an option to stay to be tortured or go.
The Bluebird Society is a short film inspired by the magnificent work of
Dostoyevski’s Karamazov Brothers. The inspiration of the film is derived from
the question of correlation between morality and happiness. In order to do so,
one has to question both words individually. The main question here is that, can
we feel truly and solely happy, if we conflict with our understanding of morals?
Can one leave behind their conscience, and truly face themselves to the non-painful
living? The Bluebird Society is a film letting the audience ask this question to
themselves, and search for the meaning of happiness. The dystopian and fantasy
feature of the film is diminishing the understanding of time and space so that
the audience would be waved by a specific group of people, city and a system.
The audience needed to be kept far away from this, in order to understand the
universality of the questions that the film is asking to them.
