Robatosis, tells the story of a woman who has anxiety. The discomfort that she
feels from her surroundings and environment is increasing and she starts to
suspect something. This discomfort have her eyes wide open.
Anxiety is one of the greatest enemies of an increasingly depressed and isolated
humanity. This mental labyrinth is a force that gnaws at the inner peace of
individuals and drags them into the swamp of despair. Fighting or making peace
with this enemy, which is unknown whether it is real or not, is an agonising
process that can cause deep wounds in the human soul. Anxiety turns even the
simplest moments of life into a struggle. A person's greatest torment is to hear
his own heart beating constantly and to be unable to eliminate the sharp dryness
in his throat no matter how much water he drinks. This is a rebellion against
the unbearable lightness of existence.
Constantly watching, listening to and analysing oneself means occupying a large
part of one's mind with meaningless and unnecessary pursuits. This can turn into
a vicious circle that drains one's energy and time. Anxiety is not only a mental
but also a physical bondage. You feel this bondage more deeply with every
heartbeat and every breath.
Rubatosis is an experience that tries to make you feel the inescapable chill of
fear, anxiety, the uncertainty of existence, the endless cycle of the struggle
with oneself and the feeling of all eyes on oneself. This term describes this
enigmatic phenomenon that exists in every moment of life but is rarely
recognised. You are being watched or you are watching, or both. This causes the
individual to re-examine his/her relationship with his/her own existence.
The hunter-victim paradox I have created in this film is an attempt to explain
that every hunter can be a victim and every victim can be a hunter, and that you
don't always have the fortitude to choose when to be which. Human nature, with
its complexity and unpredictability, is at the very centre of this paradox. Each
individual can be both predator and victim at certain moments of his or her
life. This role reversal reveals the power dynamics hidden in the depths of
human psychology.
I want to make you uncomfortable. You will feel like a person who suffers from
anxiety attacks, panic attacks, who has to hear his heartbeat all the time, who
can't get rid of the dryness in his throat even if he drinks litres of water,
who can't live in reality because of his paranoia, who looks everywhere with
eyes full of fear, who thinks that you are being watched all the time, and
perhaps who is watching everyone all the time. This disturbance has been
deliberately created to reveal one of the most fundamental truths of existence,
man's battle with his own mind. Through this experience I aimed to show how
destructive anxiety can be by forcing the viewer to confront their own inner
fears and worries.
