Egaliter by Orhan Burak Acar, Review
Egaliter is a short, experimental movie, produced, written, and directed by
Orhan Burak Acar, it highlights hope, conflicts, freedom, slavery, and the
brutal rule of survival of the fittest.
Synopsis!
In a planet with an oksi-driven economy, everyone must wear an oksi mask to
breathe outside. While human Can Abat follows Uçmak and Underground closely,
Egaliter who is an Iye has to face his past to accept who he is. When a warrant
of arrest is issued for an animal, can Abat and Egaliter join in a common
conflict?
Egaliter is showing a place where no creatures other than humans are allowed,
and it shows that survival of the fittest is the ultimate rule of that imaginary
land. Everything is in complete disorder. The animals are not allowed to exist,
the green environment is under destruction, and life is in complete chaos.
Orhan Burak, through his movie, nicely highlights the importance of hope to
succeed; conflicts create chaos and disorder in lives; and freedom is the
ultimate requirement for better, happier, and healthier lives. Inequality is the
form of slavery, and slavery is the dirty evil. The Egaliter also successfully
conveys the message that survival of the fittest is a greedy war of holding
power by the powerful elements of the planet. The film tried to show the balance
of acceptance between humans and other creatures, such as animals, on Mother
Earth.
The movie is in black and white, which gives strength to this imaginary concept;
animation is the best side of this movie; and Orhan Burak did well with
scripting as well as with direction.
Egaliter was contested in the Sweden Film Awards in multiple categories, and it
won the Best Cinematography award for the monthly competition.
