Each holiday season since 2000, a multi-talented, diverse group of dancers
representing the cultural, ethnic, and racial diversity of Boston has taken the
stage in Anthony Williams’ The Urban Nutcracker, a unique adaptation of a
familiar holiday dance classic. The Urban Nutcracker is guided by the vision of
artistic director Anthony Williams, former member of the Boston Ballet, and
created under the auspices of BalletRox. The story of this testament to Boston’s
diverse and talented arts community has never been told. In 2007 the television
team of Mediation Way, Inc. was granted access to videotape that season,
showcasing not only the production, but the tensions and exhilaration of
presenting a professional dance show: securing meager resources; uniting and
training a multi-ethnic team of artists, dancers, and stage crew; and performing
before sold-out houses.
