Ege, a young film student, is considering applying to La Fémis summer school. He talks about it with his musician friend, Azmican. To apply, he needs to make a documentary, but he doesn’t yet know what subject to choose.

One cold day, sitting on a bench by the sea, they discuss this question. Azmican suggests several documentary ideas, including one about himself and his relationship with music. But none of these suggestions satisfy Ege.

As their conversation unfolds, images of pretty young women sitting on the same bench appear between the different documentary ideas. Eventually, Ege decides to make a film about these young women. He plans to sit them in front of him and ask them the questions that preoccupy him. But in reality, the film will not be about them—it will be about himself. Because in his view of cinema, a film is not defined by the answers it gives, but by the questions it raises.

After a first part titled La Fémis, the film moves into the second part, titled Les Belles Filles. In this section, Ege interviews the young women on subjects that don’t directly concern them but reflect his own personal questions. The girls, in turn, give completely subjective answers that have no real connection to him, and then they leave the scene one by one.

In the final scene, we see Ege sitting on the same bench, talking on the phone with his mother, criticizing his own film.
