Water Means Hope” is the follow- up documentary of “Halfeti ,a land of Hope and
Misfortune” filmed between 1998 and 2001. The film reveals how the land in Upper
Mesopotamia was inundated. The Director of the documentary,Kerime Senyucel
speaks to the same people who were in the film after a period of 7 years and
learns what has happened to them. Then she compares the lives of the people in
the inundated areas with the resulting changes which have taken place because of
the dam planned to be built in the same area, Ilısu Dam on the Tigris River.
This documentary filmed candidly is far more than just the story of a dam but
describes the new life of Emine who had the only magnolia tree in the town...
The coffeehouse owner, Şerif, who has become an entrepreneur in tourism ….
And the heroısm in the life of Ahmet, the Shepherd from Hasankeyf in addition to
the prayers songs, squabbles, laughter,and love of the people.
“Water Means Hope” deals with Turkey’s struggle in the pursuıt of water to the
most remote region of the country.

between 1998 and 2001. The Director of the documentary Kerime Senyucel finds the
same people after 7 years and finds out what have happened to them. Then she
makes a link to the new stories of the Dam which is going to be buılt on the
same area. Ilısu Dam on the Tigris River.
